Don’t let slow broadband hold you back.

As Cloud applications become more the norm now for Small and Medium Business IT projects, the choice on offer has got wider and more varied and new services are coming online every day.

It’s now more important for SMB’s (10-150 users) to understand the pros and cons of Cloud enabling them to make the right choice as to whether or not to adopt Cloud for any given solution.

One of the most common pitfalls I see when I’m asked to consult with SMB’s about Cloud suitability is their poor Broadband. Too many Cloud vendors speak about the advantages of their service without enquiring whether the client can even support it properly on their Broadband. This leads to poor performance and a very bad experience for the business.

My advice is that Cloud certainly offers SMB’s some fantastic advantages and flexibility. Hosted voice, Offsite Data Backup, Microsoft Office 365 and SuperOffice CRM all provide some brilliant Cloud solutions and I implement them for any of my clients. However it’s vital to start with connectivity and ensure that their experience is not affected by a slow, poor quality Broadband connection.

Fortunately, Fibre broadband is now becoming more accessible and affordable and solutions like Wi-Fi Broadband can be used where Superfast broadband isn’t available.

My advice is to embrace Cloud and I think that as time goes on we won’t be asking “is this a Cloud solution?” because everything we do and use will be that way. For now though take a look at your Broadband connectivity and if it can be upgraded or changed to Superfast, then go ahead and do it.
